Dear Church Family:
On behalf of the Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC), I am pleased to announce that Reverend Jeremy Africa has joyfully accepted Bishop Keaton’s appointment to our church.
Pastor Jeremy and his wife Kaura along with Solomon, their four-year-old black Labrador retriever will begin their ministry on July 1, 2010.
After having met and married while both were enrolled at Asbury Theological Seminary, Jeremy and Kaura celebrated their sixth wedding anniversary this past June. Kaura graduated with a Master of Arts in Counseling in May 2004 while Jeremy graduated with a Master of Divinity in May 2005. For the past several years, Kaura has worked as a Child and Family Therapist for Community Mental Health in Midland, MI.
Pastor Jeremy received and nurtured God’s call to ordained ministry through his involvement in a number of our conference’s youth ministries, in particular, Chrysalis and summer camping ministries at Lake Louise and Bay Shore Camp. After graduating from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Jeremy served as the Youth Director at Christ United Methodist Church in Fraser, MI, Utica United Methodist Church in Sterling Heights, MI, and as the Associate Director of Youth Ministries at First United Methodist Church in Birmingham, MI. Following seminary Jeremy has served as an Associate Pastor in appointments to First United Methodist Church in Plymouth, MI and First United Methodist Church in Midland, MI.
Jeremy is the middle child of Dr. Leandro and Paula Africa, first generation immigrants from the Philippines.
After meeting both Pastor Jeremy and Kaura and having the opportunity to talk to them, they wanted me to convey to you how excited they are to be a part of what God is doing with and through the people of Goodrich United Methodist Church.
